Remembrance Day

At 11:00am I was in a shop doorway observing 2 minutes silence.  My eyes were drawn to the chocolate and cookie display right in front of me.  I couldn’t help but think how the lads in the trenches so long ago would have loved a taste of those goodies, and my heart was filled with gratitude that I can enjoy them anytime, thanks to their sacrifice.  LEST WE FORGET.

So is this late autumn or early winter?  It doesn’t really matter.  There are flowers on the strawberries, the raspberries are still producing and the snapdragons are holding on there.  Yesterday I gave my friend a helping hand on her plot while she attends to important matters.   My own plot is more or less up to date, bar for tidying the strawberries but I have no stomach for that right now.  In I went with my strimmer, zipped away happily for half an hour then tackled some weeds.  Boy she sure has a good crop of buttercups.  But worse is the rank grass.  This is going to take some time.

Today’s weather has been foul, with high winds and driving rain.  I’m sure I never saw a blacker sky at 11.30am. By the time I found a window in the weather the light was fading but I took this one photo so I can remember what late autumn/early winter looks like.

About pinkshoesknits

Hi, Pinkshoes here. This is my first crack at blogging so here's a couple of things about me. I live with my husband in a pretty village in East Yorkshire. I love to get down and dirty on my allotment and when I clean up my act I love knitting, crochet and sewing. If you share these hobbies, maybe you'd like to check in from time to time and see if there's anything interesting round here.
